‘Technology has hit all the doors’. Well, this stands true even for gardening. I am not kidding guys. We all know gardening as one of the least-tech supported works out there. Things have changed, and now you can introduce technology and make gardening more convenient and fun.

Herbot is an indoor plant robot by the Kickstarter that takes care of the home gardening. This way, urban farmers could maintain affordable and sustainable agriculture in the future.

Technology and Innovation in the Next Generation of Gardening

If you want to know the future of the gardens, then you need to take a look at methods being adopted by the tech-savvy farmers and the many agricultural experts.

History has witnessed many revolutions in gardening even a simple watering wand was one of them. Isn’t it? However, not many people are aware of it.

We shall learn a brief about each of the methods:

1. Vertical Farming

Traditional farming requires a fair amount of space especially when growing tomatoes, lettuce, etc. This is where the idea of vertical farming came into the picture. Using this technique, you can yield the same output for 1-acre land as that of 2-4 acres of traditional farming.

2. Tech Tools

You may come across different tech gadgets like garden sensors that keep a check on the moisture and the water level. Also, there are apps like the Gardening Companion, Leafsnap, GardenTags, and many others can help you in getting to know your plant more closely. Using such apps, you can also get tips and suggestions from other fellow gardeners on how to make the best out of the resources.

3. Robo-Agriculture

Farming will be done by the robots, yes it has been tested and proved. In the month of September 2017 – a robot planted a field of barley without any human intervention. Industrial agriculture is now automated and faster with robotic technology.

Hydroponic Farming

 4. Hydroponic Farming

This farming has been in the limelight for many reasons. Hydroponic farming means less water, a no-soil farming solution that consumes less space too. I don’t know if there’s any reason to dislike this method!

Hydroponic technique combined with vertical farming is a sorted-after solution for our growing population.

When was the last time you actually cared about the water coming out from your tap? People, like most of us take things for granted. However, it is not much advisable to do so while dealing with WATER!

Are you fascinated by living machines or Robotics? Like the Terminator or the Star Wars AI concept?

If yes, then you are on the right boat!

ROBOTS would soon take over the manpower in the future. And, here comes a closely knitted concept that is, Artificial Intelligence.

Top Ted Talks on Robotics

We can’t talk about robotics without the intervention of the AI. Now, what’s AI?

AI is the intelligence that’s shown by the machines, in contrast to the intelligence that we humans possess. This term was basically coined to better explain the effects of AI on the humankind.

Best Ted Talks: Top Ted Talks on Robotics

If you have been following TED Talks, then you might already know the influence of technology and hot-topics like Robotics/AI. They are over 50+ videos based on robotics and infinite videos on technology!

There are many bright and hard-working people out there working in the field of Robotics, and doing everything for the betterment and developed future. Watch out of the best compiled TedTalks that remain my all-time favorite on Robotics:

1. Could a robot pass a university entrance exam?

Noriko Arai who is a Japanese mathematician and an AI expert conducted a test on whether the computer could get into the University of Tokyo or not?

The results came out – with the AI system scoring 70% in the University exam. Even sports like the ping pong are trending because of the best ping pong robot available.

Also, Arai has pointed out the flaws too, saying AI has lack of understanding. They don’t know why the correct option was selected.

2. Robots with “soul”

This special talk was given by Guy Hoffman, who is serving as the assistant professor at the Mills Family Faculty Fellow. He shared his discovery on how robots could interact and puts light on the humanization part of the robots. Also, he tries to break that typical quality of robots which only ‘observes and respond’. He says it’s all more than that.

3. How AI can bring on a second Industrial Revolution?

Kevin Kelly, the executive editors working at The Wired has published a lot about science, philosophy, the human brain, and intelligent machines. In this TED video, Kevin explains the important aspects of AI that need to be understood before implementing.

Have you seen burning things like balls? Check out on how to be safe if this ever happens!

It was for the first time that an amazing and prestigious event like the TEDx is being conducted in Karachi! Recently, they organized a mini-film making competition with the theme – What Pakistan Needs Now?

Ali Kapadia’s film stood out from all, and the video time limit was 1 minute. TED is a non-profit organization which is highly popular for their TED talks that are conducted by a bunch of motivational speakers, businessmen, and personalities belonging to different fields.

TEDxKarachi ~ Mini-Film Winning Entry by Ali Kapadia

It was a Friday evening, and people were arranged in a number of approx 400 which included entrepreneurs, scientists, celebrities, journalists, etc at a local club.

Chris Anderson is currently the main guy handling all the TED proceedings. He is himself a Pakistani, and who left his job and joined to work for TED. He liked how the talks inspired people and connected people from across the countries.

Before joining TED, Chris once attended a talk and he mentioned how he fell in love with the conference, and he just wanted to spread the ideas to as many people as possible. That was his only goal.

Coming to the video submitted by Ali Kapadia on “What Pakistan Needs Now” is a sweet 1 min video with the story narrated by Aniqa Adil. The message in the video is originally compiled by Ali Kapadia, along with the support of Eman Bente Syed, and the Azad Film Company.

That’s the link to the video! If you haven’t seen it already, then you watch it here.

The video narration starts with the intro of a Robot that will deal with the bad guys by converting the weapons to flowers, and lock them up. Then, the video shows how the Robot will collect all the pollution and produce schools, and drop them in different parts of the country. It will then use the solar energy, and then create electricity for the people.

At the end of the video, it answers on what does Pakistan need now? The answer is a little bit of imagination. It’s indeed an inspiring one and explains the need for ideas and imagination in a simple way.

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, and Design – it’s USA based private non-profit organization that is popularly known for their conferences. People from different background and fields join in as the speakers. Most of them have an inspiring story to share, and this keeps the audience entertained and also leave them inspired.

Most of the TED videos are carried out in Europe and parts of US. The talks are carried out by scientists, philosophers, developers, artists, musician, actor, etc. It could be just anyone, but someone whose story is worth-listening, and have ideas worth spreading.

TEDx Karachi Inspiring People with Hope & Ideas

At present, TED is run by the guy named Chris Anderson, and he is a Pakistani-born and Oxford-educated journalist. He went back to his hometown and made up his mind to start the TED conference in this own country Pakistan, and that’s how the birth of TEDxKarachi happened.

TEDx Karachi

On the visit to Karachi, Chris conducted the first ever Karachi TED talk. As per the sources and other journalists present at the talk, Chris discussed how the rise in cell phones and technology can change the way of living.

He also mentioned how the reach of the Internet on devices, and other videos can change how the people act, think, and contribute towards the other people.

Some of the Pakistan online startups that I can recall at this time include the Khan Academy, and also the rozee.pk which is a job site restricted to only Pakistan.

The other people who joined the TEDxKarachi series includes the founder of Kashf foundation Roshanneh Zafar, which is funded by the Acumen Fund. She inspires the women to be independent and on ways of creating micro-finances.

Even the blogger Nuruddin Abjani who heard her speech appreciated her work, and the change she is bringing among people. He also mentioned how the audience people got teary-eyed when Roshanneh sang the National Anthem after her talk.

Even Chris Anderson’s wife joined in the talk and she asked people, “If not now, when? If not us, who?”.

More inspiring TED talks are on the way! They are sure to encourage you and guide you with simple solutions that all common people can carry out for solving out a national problem. It believes in lighting candles instead of cursing the darkness.
